Post Profile
The Chief, Directorate of Legal Affairs shall provide leadership to the Office of the Directorate of Legal Affairs, be responsible for the provision of legal advisory services to both Management and Council, and ensure compliance with the existing laws and regulatory requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and ensure efficient and effective management of the staff and resources in the Directorate of Legal Affairs.
- Provide legal advisory and interpretation services to both Management and Council and ensure statutory compliance.
- Review and draft contracts, agreements, and internal policies and ensure they comply with all statutory or legal requirements.
- Review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage external lawyers.
- Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise Management.
- Prepare, negotiate, review, and draft documentation for business transactions in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
- Provide continuous leadership, supervision, training, and development of the Directorate of Legal Affairs and its staff.
- Provide legal protection and risk management, especially on contract management.
- Follow up and update the Principal on Court matters and attend Court hearings for and on behalf of the School.
- Review and advise on MOUs between the School and other organizations including donors.
- Perform such other functions as may be delegated by the Principal or assigned by Council.

See how it works- An Honours Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) and a Diploma in Legal Practice, or its equivalent, from a recognized institution.
- A Master of Laws (LLM).
- Must be an enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid Practising Certificate.
- At least seven (7) years’ experience in a Higher Education Institution, or ten (10) years’ experience as a Managing Partner of a law firm.
- A valid Tax Clearance Certificate from the Uganda Revenue Authority at the time of application.
- Must be a citizen of Uganda aged below 55 years.
- Added advantage: Knowledge of Higher Education Institutions.
