Dispatch Engineer (Generation planning and Trading)

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), a government-owned firm that holds licences for system operation, high-voltage grid management, bulk power supply, and cross-border power trading, is inviting applications for the position of Dispatch Engineer (Generation Planning and Trading). This role sits at the heart of Uganda’s national grid, where the successful candidate will coordinate generation scheduling, manage day-ahead market bids, and ensure that power production is matched efficiently to system demand.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather generation declarations from all power plants, eligible generators, and eligible consumers on a daily basis to inform scheduling decisions.
• Develop and maintain short- and medium-term generation schedules, including day-ahead and weekly plans, to optimise supply against forecasted demand.
• Assess Available Transmission Capacity (ATC) data and incorporate it into power trading inputs.
• Prepare Day-Ahead Market (DAM) bids and submit them to the trade platform, then schedule cleared exchange volumes in the Automatic Generation Control (AGC) server.
• Issue dispatch instructions to generation plants and communicate confirmed available capacity to eligible consumers.
• Maintain generation reports and carry out forward physical market planning.
• Conduct power system analysis to underpin operational decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• At least two years of practical experience in power system operations.
• Prior involvement in generation planning is a distinct advantage.
• Strong leadership and supervisory capabilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
