The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is a leading conservation organisation dedicated to protecting Africa’s wildlife and wild lands. AWF is recruiting a Driver/Field Assistant to be based in Kidepo, Uganda, supporting its conservation project operations through safe transportation, vehicle management, and field logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport project staff, consultants, visitors, and partners to field sites and official meetings.
- Support the movement of project materials, supplies, and equipment to activity locations.
- Maintain accurate vehicle movement logs, mileage records, and travel documentation.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after trips, and monitor fuel, oil, tyres, brakes, and battery levels.
- Report mechanical faults and maintenance requirements promptly and coordinate routine servicing and repairs.
- Ensure vehicle insurance, licences, and registration documents remain valid at all times.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and AWF transport and fleet policies.
- Support field teams during community mobilisation, training sessions, monitoring visits, and stakeholder engagements.
- Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops, and field activities.
- Handle the delivery and collection of official documents, supplies, and correspondence.
- Maintain fuel consumption and maintenance records for accountability and reporting.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism when transporting staff and partners.

- Minimum of a secondary school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- A clean, valid driving licence with at least five (5) years of professional driving experience, preferably with NGOs or development organisations.
- Experience driving in rural and field-based environments is strongly desired.
- Knowledge of 4WD light vehicle operation and basic mechanical skills; an Auto Mechanics certificate is an added advantage.
- A certificate in defensive driving is an asset.
- Experience supporting donor-funded projects is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills in English and knowledge of relevant local languages.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
