Save the Children is one of the world’s foremost children’s rights organizations, active in over 100 countries. The organization is hiring a Gender Coordinator based in Kyegegwa to support the URRI project, which works to improve education and child protection outcomes for communities affected by displacement and conflict in Uganda. This is a technical coordination role requiring deep expertise in gender-responsive programming, GBV, and community-level advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead gender analyses in target districts to identify gender-specific needs, barriers, and opportunities, and use findings to inform planning and activity design
  • Oversee the implementation of regional gender strategies and action plans to address identified gaps and promote equality
  • Support the URRI project using gender-responsive strategies that ensure equitable participation of all gender groups across activities
  • Collaborate with technical teams to mainstream gender considerations and economic empowerment across all project activities
  • Work with the Gender Specialist to identify and close capacity gaps on gender equality and GBV among staff and partners, including through training and mentorship
  • Build synergies with other regional projects and partners working on GBV and sexual and reproductive health
  • Facilitate workshops and capacity-building sessions on gender equality for staff, partners, and community stakeholders
  • Participate in regional coordination forums, clusters, and working groups to integrate gender issues into broader programming
  • Collaborate with local partners on campaigns promoting gender-sensitive behaviors and meaningful behavior change
  • Advocate to district-level authorities on behalf of women, youth, and other marginalized groups
  • Integrate gender equality indicators and accountability tools into MEAL processes and monitor implementation for gender-sensitivity
  • Regularly collect and submit monitoring data and document best practices for replication and shared learning
  • Maintain strong linkages with district government departments, civil society partners, UNHCR, and OPM

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Gender Studies, Social Work, Social Administration, Community Development, or a related social science field
  • At least 5 years of experience coordinating projects within an international NGO
  • Proven experience in consortium work and external representation including with donors and coordination meetings
  • Demonstrated expertise in gender analysis, gender-responsive programming, and GBV prevention and response
  • Strong skills in program planning, project management, and team leadership and supervision
  • Experience promoting children’s rights and gender equity in program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in demanding field environments
