Plant Maintenance Electricians

Mukwano Industries Limited, East Africa’s leading FMCG manufacturer with products found in homes across the continent, is recruiting Plant Maintenance Electricians to join their team in Kampala. This is a hands-on technical role for qualified electricians with strong industrial experience, joining a company known for its commitment to operational excellence and a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out all electrical maintenance tasks on equipment and systems and provide accurate feedback on findings
• Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical equipment and systems as swiftly as possible
• Install and test plant equipment and electrical systems in accordance with approved electrical standards
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for all equipment failures and implement corrective action plans
• Monitor the ongoing operation and condition of electrical equipment and systems
• Identify and fix defects promptly or escalate to the Electrical Supervisor, Officer, or Engineer for appropriate action
• Operate and maintain electrical power equipment and switchgear including generators, power changeovers, stabilisers, and switchgear panels
• Plan and prepare for assigned jobs, arranging all necessary materials, spares, and tools in advance
• Drive continuous improvement of electrical equipment and systems through innovation
• Optimise usage of spare parts and materials
• Properly use and care for tools and test equipment including multi-meters and screwdrivers
• Uphold good housekeeping practices to maintain a safe and healthy working environment
• Comply with all relevant safety rules and procedures during job execution
• Accurately log all jobs and relevant information in the Shift Log Book
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Electrical Supervisor, Officer, Engineer, or Manager

Requirements

• Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (preferred)
• Minimum of 3 years’ electrical experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
• Strong knowledge of VFDs, basic PLCs, electrical controls, motors, and motor control systems
• Solid understanding of equipment maintenance and installation practices
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills including use of tools such as the 5-Why method
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, manuals, and technical drawings
• Competence in using test equipment such as insulation testers and multi-meters for fault-finding
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Good interpersonal skills with a proactive, team-oriented mindset
• Effective time management and the ability to work efficiently in a team
