Shift Supervisor

Mukwano Industries Limited, one of East Africa’s foremost FMCG conglomerates with a portfolio spanning household products, cooking oil, detergents, and plastics, is looking for a Shift Supervisor to oversee production operations at their Mbuya, Kampala facility. Key Responsibilities

• Allocate and monitor tasks assigned to subordinates to ensure a smooth, uninterrupted workflow
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to plant staff
• Monitor inventory levels and raise timely requisitions for raw materials and spare parts
• Prepare and submit accurate daily production reports
• Oversee preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and maximise plant efficiency
• Ensure optimal plant utilisation in line with company quality standards and production plans
• Monitor worker performance, ensuring adherence to productivity and quality targets
• Enter production data accurately into the Enterprise Resource Application
• Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout the production area
• Work with the Production Officer or Manager to determine and implement efficient production methods
• Ensure products are produced on time and consistently meet quality requirements
• Monitor production processes for compliance with quality control programmes
• Oversee equipment selection and management in collaboration with senior management
• Implement health and safety guidelines to protect employees, materials, and machinery
• Identify staff training needs and coordinate relevant skill development opportunities
• Communicate operational updates to the line manager and foster positive team spirit
• Carry out additional duties assigned by the Production Officer, Manufacturing Manager, or Business Unit Manager

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Management, or a related discipline
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing or recycling plant, preferably in a supervisory role
• Good communication skills including literacy
• Numerically competent with an aptitude for mathematics
• Physically fit with the stamina to work in a demanding environment, including at heights
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team
• Keeping up to date with changing technology relevant to manufacturing
• Strong strategic planning, team-building, and decision-making skills
• Compliance with environmental management system requirements
