Substation Operator – Nebbi

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is seeking a qualified Substation Operator for its Nebbi substation. UETCL is a government-owned utility responsible for operating Uganda’s High Voltage Transmission Grid, providing Bulk Power Supply, managing the Import and Export of Power, and maintaining the national Optic Fibre network. With a vision of becoming Eastern Africa’s foremost electricity transmission company, UETCL plays a vital role in powering sustainable regional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor switchboard instruments to identify disturbances and confirm that all equipment operates within normal parameters.
• Perform scheduled inspections and maintenance on transformers, circuit breakers, and auxiliary supply systems.
• Observe and document the operational performance of transformers and switchgear, recording any irregularities detected.
• Carry out switching operations as directed by the National Control Center and maintain clear communication with the control team.
• Manage emergency responses and unplanned outages, including rerouting power through alternative circuits as required.
• Undertake monthly energy meter readings and ensure data accuracy in all operational logs.
• Uphold high housekeeping standards throughout the substation facility.

Requirements

• Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in power system operation and/or maintenance.
• Willingness to be deployed to any of UETCL’s substation locations across Uganda.
• Ability to work extended hours and adapt to shift-based or on-call arrangements.
• Person of unquestionable integrity who is motivated, innovative, and proactive.
• Strong team orientation and commitment to achieving organisational goals.
