Parliament Passes Savage New Law To Wipe Out Fake Cosmetics

The streets are officially on lockdown for anyone pushing unregulated beauty products after the Parliament of Uganda passed the National Drug and Health Products Authority Bill, 2025, during its third reading.
This ruthless new law establishes a central superpower authority with a heavy mandate to strictly regulate, control, and supervise the manufacture, importation, and use of all health products, directly targeting the wild cosmetics industry.
Downtown Kampala is currently shaking because the days of mixing unknown chemicals in a jerrycan and labeling it “glow cream” are completely over.
According to the latest parliamentary drop, this bill doesn’t just stop at medical drugs; it massively expands the regulatory net to cover medical devices, cosmetic products, nutritional supplements, and diagnostics.
The new authority will specifically hunt down cosmetics laced with dangerous chemical agents, meaning those fast-money bleachers and fake makeup syndicates are now facing severe criminal penalties.
With corporate fines reportedly hitting up to UGX 100 million and serious jail time for individuals, the government is not playing games with the nation’s skin anymore.
This brutal legislative hammer shouldn’t be a surprise considering the massive nationwide crackdowns the National Drug Authority executed late last year and early 2026, where they impounded hundreds of millions of shillings worth of illegal products across the country.
Just months ago in October 2025, the Uganda Investment Authority actually tried to fight back on behalf of local businesses, arguing that the NDA shouldn’t have the power to aggressively police skincare advertisements when UNBS is already involved, but Parliament clearly ignored those cries for mercy.
The government has been systematically cleaning house, and this new law is the final nail in the coffin for the unregulated beauty cartel that has been profiting off insecurities.
With the law now waiting for the President’s signature to unleash total chaos on vendors and Instagram beauty gurus, will your favorite socialite survive this purge, or is the fake skin business finally bankrupt?
