Lycamobile Uganda is hiring a Database Administrator in Kampala to keep its production databases healthy, secure, recoverable and fast.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor database health, server resources and performance, and carry out routine maintenance, indexing, log management and query optimisation
Automate and monitor backups, run regular restoration tests, keep secure offsite backups and put disaster recovery plans in place
Configure and maintain replication, clustering, synchronisation and failover across primary and secondary sites
Manage database users, roles, permissions, authentication, encryption, security patches and audit logs
Find and resolve slow queries, locks, deadlocks and connection problems
Support development teams with database design, SQL optimisation, indexing and Redis caching
Maintain documentation, monitor alerts and provide on-call support during critical incidents

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
At least 3–5 years of practical experience managing production databases
Hands-on experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis and Microsoft SQL Server
Strong knowledge of database backup, recovery, replication, performance tuning and security
Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments
Certification in Microsoft Azure Database Administration, PostgreSQL or MySQL
Scripting in Bash, PowerShell or Python, cloud database experience (AWS RDS, Azure SQL or Google Cloud SQL) and familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix and Percona PMM are listed in the employer’s skills
