Gloria Bugie was told she embarrassed Uganda in front of Diamond Platnumz. Her answer, on TikTok Live: “You say I embarrassed you, you and who?”
Then she doubled down. Collabos with Diamond and The Ben are coming, she says, so critics should “wait for it” and not argue with her.
It started at the press conference for Comedy Store Uganda’s 10th anniversary, with Diamond and The Ben on the panel. Gloria used the moment to pitch a studio collaboration with both of them.
Social media had notes. Ugandans accused her of begging for a photo-op, and the word “embarrassing” did laps.
Gloria didn’t wait long to reply. Soon after, she was on record saying you introduce yourself whether people know you or not. Even at the Grammys. Even if you’re Beyoncé.
Reaching for Beyoncé to defend a press-conference hustle is a lot of confidence. We admire it.
By Monday night she’d moved from defence to attack, telling fans to stop “giving yourselves importance” and saying artists must grab every platform that shows up.
Here’s the catch. Diamond himself told that same press conference that he has recorded more songs with Ugandan artists than with anyone from any other country, and that none of them are out yet.
He blamed timing and God’s plan. He didn’t name who he’ll finally release with, though MBU notes rumours over the years about Spice Diana, Fik Fameica and Gloria herself. Rumours, not release dates.
So Gloria’s “very soon” has company. Diamond’s own “this year or next” is a wide window.
Gloria’s week started better. Only days earlier, Ceaserous tipped her as one of three young Ugandans to watch, alongside Caxah Diet and Vyroota.
Now MBU’s headline says she won’t stage her concert in Uganda and is eyeing the O2 Arena. Bold move for a week of “who is she again” memes.
Ambition is not the crime here. Being loud about it in a country that loves a humble-brag is.
If a Diamond or Ben record drops, the critics eat their TikTok comments. If it doesn’t, she is the one who swore it was coming. Clock’s ticking, Gloria.
